Thinking of Onions.

Do smells ever make you remember things? They are harvesting the onions by my house. You can get some strong smells once in awhile. Today, as I was driving down the street, I saw an onion on the side of the road, along with the smell. It reminded me that 3 years ago today, I had my hysterectomy. How, you ask, does that even go along with each other? Well, my mom was coming over to my house after I got home from the hospital. Thomas had taken off time from work, but had to go back...mom and dad were my babysitters. Kinley wasn't quite one yet, so I needed a lot of help. On her way over, she realized that she had forgotten an onion in the bag of things she had brought over to make me soup. She saw an onion on the side of the road on the way over, and made dad stop to get it.
I remember telling her that I had onions, but not much more then that (drugs, baby...) The point is, she didn't care if it was embarrassing or who was watching...she was doing it to take care of me. Her whole life she put us kids in front of her needs. I am grateful for her in my life and today seeing onions all over the sides of the road I couldn't help but think of her. I sure miss her. Maybe I will pick one up and make me some soup? Onion rings anyone?? :)

A mom will do anything for a Child in pain even if its really not that important to the Child. Moms are great.

That is so cute that she stopped and got one to make sure you got some good soup in your time of need! Mom's are the best... you can't make it without them!

What a sweet memory of your mom. I actually have a memory also with onions. My favorite investigator on my mission lived near (in) an onion field in a little trashy trailer. Every time that we would have an appointment with him, we would drive through that onion field, sit on the bumper of our car and teach him the gospel. To this day, even 13 years later, the smell of harvested onions in a field reminds me of Paul.

When we came to your house on Saturday we caught the smell of the onions and I thought of this story. I guess now every time I smell onions I'll think of mom too!

Thanks again for taking the kids, we really owe you guys one!

I would love some onion rings!! What a sweet reminder of your mom. I, too, love the smell of onions in the air this time of year.

What a beautiful story! Thank heaven for mothers! (Mine claims you partially) I'm glad that you recovered fully from the surgery!

What a great story. I remember a few years ago I needed an onion for a recipe I was making on Sunday. Since I didn't want to go to the store I had Jordan go to the field up the street and pick one. What a great lesson huh? Shopping bad, Stealing okay!
